Insulation Quality Assurance Inspections
All Insulation Quality Assurance is provided by a 3rd party RESNET Rater and Quality Assurance Designee, as required by the US DOE Builders Challenge Program Requirements.
When the SIP Curtain wall was installed the installation was blower door tested and thermal imaged any and all leaks and possible thermal bridges were found and corrected the ACH @ 75 Pascal’s is 0.1
Installed Insulation System Quality Assurance is provided by a 3rd party RESNET Rater and Quality Assurance Designee, as required by the US DOE Builders Challenge Program Requirements;
There are Four Quality Assurance Inspections that are performed when installing an insulation system;
1) Spray Foam Insulation mix ratio and pressure test. This is performed to ensure that the 2 part closed cell spray mix is exiting the gun in the proper proportions; the pressure testing is done once the mix is adjusted.
2) Applied and cured closed cell spray foam is visually inspected to ensure that the cavity or surface has the applied thickness called for in the specification of the project. 300 inspection points were identified in this application due to square footage of applied closed cell spray foam. Each point is probed for depth and recorded if a point is at or under the specified thickness the area is painted blue and a second application is then applied.
3) Dense packed insulation is the second and final interior insulation layer. Density of the installed insulation is determined by two methods;
a) A pressure test where one square foot of installed dense packed insulation is depressed and the resistance to compression is determined the installed density per square foot and the number gives you the installed R Value.
b) On the thicker section of the dense pack insulation a square foot of insulation is cut out of the installed insulation and then weighed for the installed density which gives you the installed R value
4) Blower door and thermal imaging of the installed insulation assemblies is performed as a final check on all of the air tightness ACH @ 75 Pascal’s is 0.01 before all of the windows and door are cut into the building wall assemblies.
